The Department of Water and Sanitation – Artisan Positions

The Department of Water and Sanitation is looking for skilled and dedicated Artisan Foremen and Artisans in Mechanical, Electrical, and Civil disciplines to join the Infrastructure Management Northern Operations team. The positions are based at the Groblersdal Area Office and offer competitive salaries and growth potential.

Available Positions:

1. Artisan Foreman Grade A (Mechanical) – REF NO: 110425/09
   Salary: R362,130 per annum (OSD)
   Centre: Groblersdal Area Office Requirements:
   • Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate
   • 5+ years of post-qualification experience in the mechanical field
   • Valid unexpired driver’s license
   • Strong technical, problem-solving, and analytical skills
   • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, PMDS, and PFMA
   • Ability to work independently and under pressure
   • Practical and theoretical testing may be required
   Key Duties:
   • Supervise the design, production, and maintenance of technical services
   • Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations
   • Perform administrative tasks and report writing
   • Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring continuous development
   • Maintain bulk raw water infrastructure and ensure quality assurance

2. Artisan Grade A-C (Electrical) – REF NO: 110425/10
   Salary: R230,898 – R386,775 per annum (OSD)
   Centre: Groblersdal Area Office Requirements:
   • Electrical Trade Test Certificate
   • 2+ years of experience as an Artisan Aid (preferred)
   • Knowledge of SANS 10142-1&2, air-conditioning, and refrigeration
   • Valid unexpired driver’s license
   • Strong communication skills and technical report writing expertise
   • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and legal compliance
   • Practical and theoretical testing may be required
   Key Duties:
   • Maintenance of electrical installations in dams, reservoirs, pump stations, and more
   • Inspect and repair equipment as per standards
   • Service and maintain equipment according to schedules
   • Implement planned maintenance and ensure safety compliance
   • Supervise staff and compile technical reports

3. Artisan Grade A-C (Civil) – REF NO: 110425/11
   Salary: R230,898 – R386,775 per annum (OSD)
   Centre: Groblersdal Area Office Requirements:
   • Appropriate Carpentry Trade Test Certificate
   • 2+ years of experience as an Artisan Aid (preferred)
   • Strong planning, organizing, and analytical skills
   • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
   • Ability to work under pressure, independently, and in a team
   • Valid unexpired driver’s license
   • Practical and theoretical testing may be required
   Key Duties:
   • Maintenance of civil carpentry structures and installations
   • Supervise maintenance and repairs of equipment
   • Ensure quality assurance and adherence to safety standards
   • Manage maintenance logs and compile technical reports
   • Supervise staff and support their individual development

4. Artisan Grade A-C (Mechanical) – REF NO: 110425/12
   Salary: R230,898 – R386,775 per annum (OSD)
   Centre: Groblersdal Area Office Requirements:
   • Fitter and Turner Trade Test Certificate
   • 2+ years of experience as an Artisan Aid (preferred)
   • Strong technical and problem-solving skills
   • Knowledge of technical report writing, legal compliance, and Occupational Health and Safety Act
   • Ability to work independently and under pressure
   • Valid unexpired driver’s license
   • Practical and theoretical testing may be required
   Key Duties:
   • Maintain mechanical installations in various infrastructure assets
   • Perform inspections, repairs, and maintenance on equipment
   • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations
   • Implement planned maintenance and maintain detailed maintenance records
   • Supervise and mentor staff, ensuring continuous development
